ECONOMY

The men who swore and oath of loyalty to the new germanic kings, got some land. That is why economy was based on agriculture and livestock breeding. Farming was organized in large estates owned by the nobility and economically self -suficient. Trade declined and money did not circulate as it did before.Cities were abandoned and society became very rural.

RELIGION

Germanic peoples were polyteistic and their religion was a form of paganism. Later on some of them converted to arrianism which was considered a heresy – they don ot accept the divinity of Christ – or to Catholicism.

CULTURE AND ART

Their cultural level was lower than the Romans so culture experienced a decline. Churches and other public builings were small due to the lack of resources. Sometimes they reused Roman manterials and columns.

Sculpture was based on reliefs and decorations in capitals.

However they   were very skillful at metalwork, specially in jewelry , crowns and lamps.
